Breckenridge, Colorado Winter Engagement Session

Oh my goodness, what a beautiful session!  Hanna and Johnny will have their wedding in New York near where they’re originally from, but wanted their engagement photos taken near where they currently reside–the beautiful Colorado. Hanna and Johnny decided to have their Colorado Engagement Photos taken at both Hoosier’s Pass and Breckenridge.  We knew we would be doing a sunrise session, so Jackson and I flew out to Colorado two days before their session so we could do some sunrise scouting a day early.

Let me tell you, winter sessions are not for the faint of heart.  I’m a native WNY’er, and we’re no strangers to cold.  I’ve photographed plenty of sessions in 5°F weather.  But oh man, Colorado cold is something different!  The morning of their session it was a whopping 3°F, with wind.  On top of that mountain at Hoosier’s Pass, it was down right frigid.  But Hanna and Johnny were absolute troopers!  We took several car breaks to warm our frozen toes and fingers, and made the most of what was handed to us!

As we made our way down to the Montgomery Reservoir, the conditions immediately became far more comfortable.  The valley blocked the wind beautifully, and the sun filtering through the trees as it rose in the sky created a stunning morning glow.  We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful setting!  And, the day before a few inches of fresh snow had fallen creating a crisp-white setting against the trees.

It was also such a joy to have their two dogs with us for their session!  There’s not much better that seeing two doodles have fun in the snow, and oh those pups were in their element!  We even took them on the gondola for a few photos, and they were such champs.  If you’re ever wondering if you should bring your fur-baby for your engagement photos, the answer is always yes, haha!

I am continually humbled by the couples who trust Jackson and I with documenting these pivotal seasons in their lives.  From Colorado to New York to Florida to Washington to Illinois, we seriously get to travel to the coolest places and take photos of the most amazing couples.  I couldn’t be more grateful!
